ALTAR SERVERS MATTER

Being an Altar Server at Mass is much more than simply 'helping out' at your parish, or 'assisting' the priest. Serving at Mass means that you get to be a part of the greatest miracle on earth. This is the miracle of God coming to be with His people in the Sacrament of the Eucharist: the miracle of bread and wine becoming the real, substantial presence of God! With your participation at the altar, you get to have a front-row seat to God Himself coming to feed His flock. Not everyone gets such a privilege. To serve at the altar during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is a great honor that every server should be proud of.

For every Mass to be prayerful and dignified, it takes the hard work of many people: the priest certainly cannot do it alone. That's why Sacristans, Lectors, Musicians, Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers and many other people are vital to every Mass. In a particular way, Altar Servers play a special role at Mass because they assist with some of the most important aspects of the liturgy. Setting up the altar, preparing the sacred vessels and all of the other duties that assist the priest are integral. What Servers do at the altar and how they do it matters: not only for the people, but most importantly for God!
